Food Around the World and Assignments for October 12

As we study culture, food is an important aspect.

Check out A Worldwide Day's Worth of Food from Time.  Based on the book, What I Eat by Menzel and D'Aluisio.

Here is an interesting article on what Americans can learn from other food cultures.    Please note the aspects of culture that are mentioned including the notion of America as a melting pot and "Food as Community."  Also, regional differences in food choices.  How are your food choices impacted by your culture?  








Gastrodiplimacy 


Assignments:

  1. Please explore gastrodiplomacy and how it relates to peace.
  2. Explore your cultural heritage and how it impacts your food choices.
  3. Is there a particular time in history or a region of the US or of the world that you would like to visit and taste the cuisine?  
  4. How do you think acculturation impacts missionaries and their children?  

We have discussed many countries in our class so far.  I would like to ask you to pray for the countries, so here are some guides you can use to help you:
